** The Brewers Arms, Martinstown

The Brewers Arms is a true traditional English pub – a jewel in the Dorset crown.

The pub was originally built as a girl’s school in 1848 and converted into the village inn in 1865 when the beer came from the Brewery House opposite. In the early years, the pub was particularly popular with farmers washing their sheep in the washing pool just up the lane in front of the pub. The washing pool is still there and now acts as the starting point for the annual Duck Race which sees hundreds of plastic ducks “racing” each other down the stream.

** The Horse & Groom, Wareham

Winner of East Dorset CAMRA Pub of the Year and Rural Pub of the Year 2019, The Horse & Groom is a traditional award winning pub with roaring open fires, quality home cooked meals, local ales and a stunning courtyard.

** The Royal Oak, Swallowcliffe

Tucked away in the  Nadder Valley, away from the hustle and bustle, The Royal Oak has been an inn since 1852. The pub is set in the beautiful village of Swallowcliffe in an AONB, nestled in a little dell, just off the A303. 

Since it’s renovation in 2015, the pub has built a reputation for high quality food, superior rooms and a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. This really is worth going out of your way to visit.

** The Shack, Clapcotts Farm, Spetisbury

This quirky ‘pub’ based in an old milking station is siituated on a working farm. When the farm owners Maric & Shaun closed their dairy farm, they decided to open a ‘pop-up’ bar on the site – the bar started out purely for special events, but The Shack has now become a popular haunt in Spetisbury after being granted a full licence in 2021.

** The Green Man, Kings Stag

The Green Man pub has been at the center of the village of Kings Stag in Dorset for hundreds of years.  This quintessential Dorset pub prides itself on its delicious homemade, local and fresh food with an excellent drinks selection including local real ales & ciders, old favourites and an extensive wines and spirits list.

The Green Man at Kings Stag offers the perfect balance between a traditional and contemporary pub. With cozy fires & a sunny beer garden The Green Man is perfect whatever the season.

** The Udder Farm, East Stour

An award-winning family run farm shop and restaurant on the edge of the Blackmore Vale, this is a staple destination to source local produce and their 120 seater restaurant has beautiful views over the local countryside.

** The Silverback Alehouse, Bournemouth

A quirky micropub run by the “happiest barman in Bournemouth” – The Silverback Alehouse is a unique venue, with a vibrant ceiling display of beer pump clips as well as church pew seating. The beers change every 3 days!!

** Dilke & Son, Stalbridge

This famous, independent grocers has been a staple of the town since 1851. Now an award-winning large independent supermarket and deli, they stock produce from over 100 local growers, makers and bakers. Family-run for five generations.

** The Fox Inn, Lower Ansty

The Fox in a quintessential English Inn in the heart of Dorset with the charms of a country pub with a modern twist. The pub is owned and run by a farming family just across the road at Brewery Farm and as much produce as possible comes directly from there or as locally as possible.

** The Fiddleford Inn, Sturminster Newton

Perfectly placed for exploring the beautiful Dorset countryside – from Shaftesbury and Gold Hill to Sherborne, Cerne Abbas and Blandford, this pub has a relaxed, cozy atmosphere with honest pub food, a great selection of real ales and lagers, a large beer garden for when it’s sunny and a roaring log fire for those colder nights.

** The Virginia Ash, Henstridge

Nestling on the Somerset/Dorset border The Virginia Ash is conveniently situated in Henstridge at the junction of the A30 and A357. As well as being a famous and thriving local Freehouse pub and restaurant it is ideally placed for a welcome break on journeys between Bath and the Jurassic Coast or The Home Counties and Devon, to name but a few.
