2017 – What a Year!

A year has passed at Salcombe Brewery Co. and what a year it was with 2017 full of new beginnings and adventures. In Spring, we settled into our new state-of-the-art brewery overlooking the Salcombe Ria, capable of brewing up to 350 casks a week. Our impressive Gravity containers have been brewing great beer since and more recently we have now started brewing using our own water, filtered directly from underneath the brewhouse. The perks of being situated above a decommissioned water reservoir! The Brewery has been a popular site to visit and following the introduction of brewery tours, visitors and beer aficionados have enjoyed learning about the equipment and the brewing process. The tastings of course proving ever popular!

In the summer, we consolidated our range. Shingle Bay moved to a seasonal on draught, leaving Devon Amber, Seahorse, Lifesaver and Gold as our core, regular beers on draught.  We had great success with our seasonal beers too. Stormwatch and Christmas Tide strengthened our growing reputation which our talented brewers have worked hard to enhance throughout 2017. Speaking of the brewers, we were thrilled to welcome Sam Beaman to the team in September. Sam has a Masters in Brewing from the University of Nottingham and following his arrival, Sam has brought an energic and scientific approach which has led to a productive and effective method of brewing. We’re very excited about what else is to come from the team as they continue to work together to create great beer.

The launch of the online shop in November coincides with the progressive growth aspirations of the business. This proved successful throughout the Christmas period and we’re looking forward to expanding the range available as we will look to continue to grow the areas where our beers are sold throughout the country. We’re very happy that visitors to South Devon can now take the great taste of Salcombe Beer home with them!

As ever, the team have been hard at work during 2017, not only in the brewhouse but also throughout the year at various events. Supporting local communities is very important to our ethos and along with the Kingsbridge Music Festival, Crabfest and Kingsbridge County Show, we have also been lucky to participate at the Dart 10k swim and Aveton Gifford to Bantham swim as well. During the Christmas period, you could find our beer at the Exeter Christmas Market which we were thrilled to achieve. We also had a great day at the Kingsbridge Christmas Market which we are fortunate to participate at annually. We look forward to supporting an even greater number of events in 2018.

As we turn our attention towards 2018, Salcombe Brewery has an even more exciting year ahead. There are many new things in the pipeline so keep an eye out for our future updates in our newsletters and website . You can also see what we’re up to throughout our social media – on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter where during the year we’ll be launching competitions involving our beer!

And finally we wish you all a very happy new year!!!!
